It was a month of first times. Nine of the thirteen CSI5* feature classes went to horses who had never won at five-star Grand Prix or World Cup level before.
Abdel Saïd and Wathnan Quaker Brimbelles Z helped Belgium to team silver at the FEI World Championships in Aachen this summer, and in the LGCT Grand Prix of Rome it was finally Quaker's time to shine as an individual winner. The points earned there helped secure Abdel's 2026 LGCT title, the reward for an incredible season on the circuit.
That same weekend, our team was onsite at the Highlands Cup in Amenia to watch Mark Bluman and Landon de Nyze win the 50th MLSJ Grand Prix.
For listeners of the EquiRatings Jumping Podcast, it will come as no surprise when I say I have been a huge fan of Pieter Devos and Casual DV Z for years. Their 2026 season has been nothing short of exceptional: six five-star Grand Prix and World Cup podiums before they headed to Cairo to perform under the Pyramids. There, they finally clinched a well-deserved first five-star Grand Prix win.
I won't have been the only teary-eyed viewer watching Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli win the LGCT Grand Prix of Rabat in the saddle of Iron Dames Calvino II de Nyze Z. The emotion and joy were almost palpable through the screen. That same weekend, two of the sport's fastest riders went head-to-head in the jump-off of the CSI5*-W Lyon World Cup, with Julien Epaillard and Le Coultre de Muze pipping Richard Vogel and Cloudio by just three hundredths of a second.
As the World Cup season ramps up, the race for qualifying points for the FEI World Cup Final in Gothenburg will surely be a thrilling spectacle. So will the LGCT Super Grand Prix in Verona, where 15 champions take each other on in a final showdown.
